In this TED Talk (Talk Transcript), Drew Dudley tells a story about how he impacted and changed someone’s life, without him actually knowing and realizing it. This is a great story about how our day to day actions could impact other’s lives. Yes, our day to day actions can hugely impact others. This is a very powerful statement and it could be both good and bad.
Drew defines leadership as creating lollipop moments – moments where you said something or did something that you fundamentally made someone’s life better. Leadership is all about making a difference!
Our words and action impact and influence others around us. Every single one of you has been the catalyst for a lollipop moment at some point in your life. You may just not know it – You are a Leader. Similarly, I am sure you can find lollipop moments in your life where someone’s words or deeds impacted something you did or are still doing. The catalysts for such moments being our parents, teachers, siblings, friends and even strangers as in Drew’s story. These are the Leaders in our lives.
Leaders are the ones who create lollipop moments in the lives of others. We need to create lollipop moments for others and acknowledge others who create them for us.
As true as this is, it is equally true that you could be a catalyst for something that could have a huge negative impact on someone’s life. Though unintentionally, it could be something you did or something you said. As today’s leaders, empowering tomorrow’s generation we need to act consciously so that we create great experiences and lollipop moments but not the negatively impact others.
Here are some tips that could help you reduce negatively impacting others.
- Think, Talk and Walk Positive.
- Look at the bright side of the things; Show the bright side to others.
- Be Patient.
- Step up and make a difference.
We have the power to make a difference in someone’s life. With great power comes great responsibility.Consciously create Lollipop moments and be an Everyday Leader.
Hope you enjoyed Drew’s talk as much as I did.

Your approach towards the subject is phenomenal. Highlighting the fact that every one of us has been a leader at some point of our lives is exceptional. I totally agree that anyone in a leadership role needs to be acutely aware of the impact on others around them.
Thank you, when we are aware of the possible impact we could make, we act more responsible. Glad you enjoyed the approach.
